Krk Town

A town distinguished by a fascinating history, fantastic nature and favourable seaside location

Krk is a town and harbour located in a spacious cove in the southwestern part of the island of the same name. This former Roman town and home of the most powerful Croatian medieval noble family, the Frankopans, is today the administrative, cultural and religious centre of the island.

The historic town centre is surrounded by walls that date back to the pre-Roman period and can be entered through four gates and has preserved its medieval layout up to the present day. Its most interesting landmarks are Krk Cathedral, which dominates the townscape, the Frankopan Castle, Vela Placa Square, and the many secular buildings complete with valuable elements originating from many different historical periods.

In the new part of the town which stretches along the coastline and among the hills, you'll find a fantastic choice of beaches, campsites and hotels that offer excellent service. Guests interested in outdoor activities will enjoy the wide range of sports facilities and water sports on offer, and the cycling and hiking trails that wind along the coast and on to picturesque vineyards, olive groves and small towns.

In Krk, you absolutely must try the local specialities prepared with Kvarner fish, the famous Kvarner scampi, Krk pršut dry-cured ham and cheese, homemade šurlice pasta, and top-quality island lamb.
